VERMONT COMPANY WINS MAJOR INTERNATIONAL FOOD INDUSTRY AWARD
(October 29, 2003)
Results of the 2004 Scovie Awards, one of the top international food competitions -- have just been announced, and Vermont based Vermont Pepper Works is among the winners. The competition is widely accepted as the top award for hot and spicy foods.
Vermont residents, Jeff and Julianne Mitchell are the Founders and run all aspects of their 4-year-old company, Vermont Pepper Works, which creates and manufactures a fine line of All-Natural, hand-crafted pepper sauces at the Vermont Food Venture Center, a food business incubator in Fairfax, VT.
"Spicy foods are becoming more versatile and used to enhance the experience of the consumers meals. It’s not just about extreme heat, it’s about flavor with palatable spice levels", said Jeff.
Vermont Pepper Works’ Rancho Ancho Pepper Sauce, "Rated PG." won First Place in the Scovie Awards’ Medium Heat category. The Rancho Ancho Pepper Sauce is known for its balsamic vinegar / red wine base, essence of seven spices, and it’s smooth smoky flavor with a tolerable heat.
Over 600 companies competed for top honors. The Scovie Awards, which are presented by Fiery-Foods and Barbecue Magazine, along with Sunbelt Shows, producers of the National Fiery Foods & Barbecue Show, were announced October 24th in Albuquerque, NM. The awards, named for Wilbur Scoville who pioneered a rating scale for spicy foods, have become the industry standard for excellence in over 60 categories of fiery foods.
VT Pepper Works can be found online and in your local heath food Co-ops.
